Chair Sketches
Chair sketches. Above the original one, done in fineliner and marker. Below the digitally adjusted version.
notice also the reflection in the seat of the right chair, instantly boosting the gloss-effect of the material.

Myrthe
A little messy, especially the hair... I should take some time to clean it up here and there. Digital work.

Jude Law
Not entirely pleased with this... I think I'll revisit it in a couple of days to refine some features like the mouth
and the eyebrows... Sometimes you gotta step away for a while to spot what's wrong.

My portraits are usually done completely digitally, yet i try to work as traditional as I feel comfortable with; I just use one layer and basically start painting. Well, first I do the linework until I feel comfortable enough to jump in with colours. I do not use the eyedropper tool either, but rather try to find the correct colours 'manually'.. Sometimes I'll use the eyedropper tool to check my handpicked colour.

Capoeira acrylic sketch
Someone asked me if I had any Capoeira related sketches, so while digging through my archives I stumbeled upon this one again. The black & white version is done in acrylic; after experimenting with some digital colour the bottom version was created.

Hulk Sketches
Finally have time to get to random sketching again. The Hulk is so much fun; drawing all those monstrous muscle groups is great anatomy practice. Especially the back of the torso deserves practice, since I dont draw that part too often.

'Atlas', 120 x 80 cm
Finally got around to some painting again this weekend. I started this one three weeks ago, but couldn't find any time t work on it since. Now, it's almost finished i guess. Sometimes, I have no idea at all about what to put on the canvas; I just mix colours, see what i like, throw some paint on there and allow all those happy little accidents to arise. For this one, though, I had the idea first. I wanted to depict titan Atlas from Greek mythology, who was sentenced to carry the universe on his shoulders untill the end of eternity.

Car Concept
Sketch done in Photoshop. I actually think it needs a lot more work; there's some major mistakes that need fixing. But hey, a sketch is just that I guess..

Figure sketches
Sketches from design drawing classes. The students had to draw figure poses to help explain their product design. These are some quick examples I did for them.

Das Hippo
Made during the design drawing classes where I work as student assistent. As a warm-up excersise, the students were given the assignment to draw a hippo, relying on their visual library.

Grumpy
30 min sketch in Photoshop. Finally was able to create a brush that closely resembles a sketch pencil. The stupid thing is, that it's a really, really easy modification of the default round brush... Ah well, took me a few years to set it right, but better late than never I guess.

Speed Spidey
Had this one for a while, almost forgot it. Very rough speed paint, testing a brush I created (a derivation from the default brushes) in Photoshop. I think I'll be working with it more often. This one took about 20 min I believe..

Car speed sketch
Having fun drawing fast cars, and drawing them fast. This was an excercise in rendering out a car as quickly as I could. Took me a little under an hour..

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
Doing some more portrait practice. I'm getting a bit more likeness in my portraits. Blocking in the masses of light and dark is becoming more accurate, as well as constuction of the initial line sketch. However, when light and shadow masses are more diffuse, not with a clear single light source so to say, I'm still having lots of trouble...

Niqaab
Boy, it's getting hard to keep up the once-a-week posting guideline... This one's from pretty far back in time. Based on a photo reference.
